This weekly summary covers major developments across the Nintendo ecosystem for the period of October 13–19, 2026. The industry is currently transitioning into a new release phase with the Nintendo Switch 2, bringing both original titles and upgraded versions of existing hits to the platform.
The week is defined by a strong emphasis on the Nintendo Switch 2. Key highlights include the release of a prologue demo for Monster Hunter Wilds, allowing players to experience the game’s technical demands on the new hardware before its full December launch. Additionally, It Takes Two has been released for the Switch 2, offering a significant value proposition to current owners by providing a free upgrade from the original Switch version. Other notable entries include the upcoming Nintendo Switch Sports Resort and the highly anticipated, rebuilt version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time scheduled for November 5.
Beyond hardware-specific news, software updates continue to expand existing titles. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave has introduced a paid Expansion Pass, aiming to provide long-term engagement through multiple waves of content, including future story additions. In the mobile and casual space, Pokémon Pokopia has launched its "Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises" Halloween event, which introduces unique mechanics such as a camouflage-based mini-game to collect event currency and unlock exclusive furniture.
Nintendo continues to bolster its legacy library by adding three Game Boy Advance titles—Monster Rancher Advance, Kururin Paradise, and Metal Slug Advance—to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service. Notably, the inclusion of Kururin Paradise marks a significant release for Western players, as it was previously never available outside of Japan. The week also sees the continued expansion of third-party support with titles like Just Dance: Decades of Hits and upcoming shooter releases, demonstrating a diverse software pipeline spanning from party games to complex tactical RPGs.
Alex: The story content is planned for the following year, rather than available with that opening installment. The host calls the expansion promising but says its value will depend on what the later story delivers. That is a judgment about potential, not a review of completed content.
Sam: So the useful comparison isn’t simply free versus paid. It’s also what you receive now versus what you expect later.
Alex: It Takes Two supplies a different case. Existing owners of the original Switch version receive a free upgrade to the newer console’s edition. The roundup reports higher resolution, improved frame rates, and richer visual effects, but gives no measurements of those improvements.
Sam: Since the adventure requires cooperation, getting a partner involved is part of its accessibility. What does the included Friend’s Pass actually permit?
Alex: Friend’s Pass lets another player join without owning the full game. The document describes supported cross-platform online cooperation, meaning play across compatible gaming platforms. It also says platform compatibility and online requirements still apply, so this isn’t an unrestricted invitation from any device.
Sam: The cooperative design is more than sharing a screen, then. The document describes players needing different abilities to help each other progress.
Alex: Yes. Cody and May, transformed into tiny dolls, face changing puzzles and obstacles. One player’s ability can open a path while the other contributes something different. That concrete description explains the appeal more clearly than the visual upgrade claims alone.
Sam: What about the seasonal Pokémon event? Limited availability can make a small announcement more urgent than a larger future release.
Alex: Pokémon Pokopia’s Pumpkaboo’s Sweet Surprises runs until November first, ending early that morning in local time. Players disguise themselves as furniture or other objects Pokémon like. Surprising approaching Pokémon earns pumpkin candy, which can be traded for themed furniture and decorations.
Sam: That sounds like a connected activity rather than a simple login reward. Do the decorations contribute to anything beyond appearance?
Alex: They can help create a suitable habitat that may attract Gourgeist, another Pokémon to befriend. The Pokémon befriended during the event remain afterward. Participation requires an update, prior progress including rebuilding a Pokémon Center and learning Camouflage, and an internet connection when starting the event for the first time.
Sam: Those requirements could change whether someone can participate at all. What is the next major release the guide asks readers to watch?
Alex: Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is scheduled for October twenty-second, exclusively on the newer console. Nintendo says it contains twelve sports, compared with the narrower question of whether any particular activity appeals to you. The setting returns to Wuhu Island from earlier Nintendo sports games.
Sam: What actually distinguishes it from revisiting familiar motion-controlled sports?
Alex: Alongside returning activities, it introduces thumb wrestling and skateboarding. Skateboarding uses the newer controller as a mouse to perform tricks and move around. Flying and water activities also offer ways to explore, but the host leaves lasting appeal as an open question.
Sam: The Zelda announcement also revisits something familiar. Which changes are concrete, and which reactions are the host’s interpretation?
Alex: The new Ocarina of Time version is scheduled for November fifth. Announced changes include enhanced graphics, voiced cutscenes with expanded dialogue, and orchestral music. The ocarina is the musical instrument Link uses to interact with the world.
Sam: The microphone feature seems the clearest departure. What does the document say players will actually do?
Alex: They can hum a melody Link has learned, or play it on a real instrument, for the microphone to recognize. A new area also allows rematches with defeated monsters. The host finds these additions intriguing, but doesn’t establish how reliably recognition works or how the changes fit the adventure.
Sam: We’ve concentrated on the larger stories. Does the rest of the roundup add anything beyond another release list?
Alex: It adds useful access distinctions. The Game Boy Advance additions require the higher Nintendo Switch Online membership tier. Kururin Paradise stands out because the document says it had not previously been released outside Japan.
Sam: So the library update is partly about access to older games, not just nostalgia. What about the remaining family and party releases?
Alex: Just Dance: Decades of Hits spans music from several eras and offers a later free upgrade for existing Switch owners. Bluey’s Happy Snaps is also reported available. Here the writer explicitly declines a detailed gameplay breakdown because they haven’t verified enough information.
Sam: That admission helps define the boundary. Across the document, how much should we trust the recommendations?
Alex: Treat them as editorial judgments attached to reported announcements. There is no player sample, systematic testing, or measured performance comparison. The closing note also warns that dates and availability can change and directs readers to official announcements.
Sam: Given those limits, who should read the full document, and where should they begin?
Alex: Players making a purchase or access decision should start with their game’s section, especially its restrictions. For timing, read “The Nintendo games to watch this week.” For value, compare Fire Emblem’s available content with its future plans, or check the free-upgrade conditions for games already owned.
Sam: And for listeners who only need the broad picture, what should survive the commute?
Alex: Separate what is available, what is promised, and what has actually been tested. This roundup is useful for the first two; it does not establish the third. An announcement can tell you what to watch, without telling you what is worth buying.
Sam: Thanks for listening, and take care.
